Creative Society and Economy Institute (hereinafter the CSEI) was established in 2012. This is the youngest and biggest academic branch of the university uniting different scientific disciplines, from social sciences to the humanities, and offering undergraduate and graduate studies. Currently, it is managed by Dr. Mindaugas Kazlauskas.

The Institute’s staff analyzes creative changes in society leading to a significant increase in the economic value of Lithuania and the country’s international recognition and competitiveness. It rapidly performs international creative research in the fields of economy, creative and cultural industries, the fashion industry, media culture, technology and aesthetics, business sociology and political communication. The Institute scientists publicize their research findings at scientific conferences and, based on them, deliver lectures to students.

The Institute encourages bold ideas and their realization together with the academic community, students and social partners. In order for the Institute to become the most important interdisciplinary creative economy and the fashion industry research centers in the Baltic region, it rapidly develops international relations with foreign universities and scientists. Based on cooperation, in 2018 the institute plans to start offering the third cycle studies providing a doctoral degree in communication.

In collaboration with partners, the Institute organizes tele-bridges with globally famous science and art institutions. Based on international cooperation programs, open lectures for the university community and visitors are delivered by famous scientists from the US, Russia, Poland, Germany, Turkey and others.

The aim of the Institute is to develop creative social and economic research, to implement innovative and prospective studies, to bring together progressive, courageous, motivated, free and the business community, to form a creative society, creating added value for the economy and promoting the country’s uniqueness.

Professors

Lectures of researchers and representatives of creative industries coherently combine theory and practice, apply the latest design and problem teaching methods to help students plan their careers and implement creative business ideas. The Institute employs over sixty teachers (of which fifteen PhDs). In the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, lectures are delivered by the University Rector prof. Dr. Arūnas Augustinaitis, fashion experts aSsoc. Prof. Dr. Eugenijus Skerstonas, lect. Marija Palaikytė, designer lect. Daiva Urbonavičiūtė, director of the Institute of Creative Society and Economics, media and art critic Assoc. Prof. Dr. Remigijus Venckus, sociologist studying the creativity phenomenon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liutauras Labanauskas, film directors lect. Inesa Kurklietytė and Ramunė Rakauskaitė, director of the Lithuanian Cinema Centre lect. Rolandas Kvietkauskas, coordinator of the European Union of the Creative Europe program in Lithuania lect. Eglė Deltuvaitė, media artist and media ecology expert Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rimantas Plungė.

Student activities

The institute cooperates with Lithuanian and foreign art incubators, producers, creative unions, innovative and entrepreneurship competence-intensive businesses. In these partner organizations, students not only perform professional practices, but also successfully develop their careers after graduation.

Each year, a creative summer camp is organised for Lithuanian gymnasium students interested in the creative industries, in collaboration with the University Competence Development Centre. The centre also organises the creative industries tournament KITAS that has no analogues in Lithuania, with participation of pupils and students from Lithuanian general education institutions, vocational training centres, colleges and universities.
