The Internet Engineering Department of Kazimieras Simonavičius University was opened in January 2014. The department is creating a new academic direction in informatics, based on the internet technology. The Internet provides unlimited opportunities for the development of innovation, business competitiveness and social well-being, and the shortage of the Internet Engineering specialists in the market has been repeatedly highlighted in the media. In this context, KSU allows Lithuanian and foreign students to acquire this promising and innovative computer engineering specialty thus contributing to the implementation of the vision of information society in Lithuania. Currently, the department is managed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rytis Rainys.

The department aims to train highly qualified specialists in web engineering, knowledgeable in telecommunications networks and the role of Internet in them, understanding the Internet network architecture and it’s functioning patterns. It is important that the studies not only provide knowledge in the field of computers in line with modern IT development trends, but also teach to professionally apply the acquired knowledge for work in modern sectors in the web engineering environments such as cloud computing, information and media content hosting or databases.

Teachers of the department are competent scientists, researchers, experts and practitioners of computer science, mathematics, telecommunications, and electronic communications.

Developer and lecturer of the curricula of the Internet Technology Security is the manager of the Internet Engineering Department, Doctor of Technological Sciences Rytis Rainys, highly skilled researcher of Internet technologies, publishing articles in peer-reviewed and other scientific magazines, with more than 10 years of experience of work in the Lithuanian Communications Regulatory Authority, who has implemented a number of national Internet projects (coordinator of the Safer Internet LT, founder and manager of CERT-LT), always actively participating in international conferences and activities of international internet security working groups.

Priorities of the Department

Creation of educational infrastructure: Internet Engineering Laboratory for practical training of studies, research and professional development in the field of Internet technology and close partnership with IT companies to involve business processes in training, and transfer of experience.
